frosting the state of utah.

Sunday, November 11, 2012

the state of utah was graced with frost this past weekend. normally, i feel the need to keel over and die when the first major snow fall hits the state. but oddly, this year i have been pretty excited and positive with the weather. more open minded, i guess you could say. the snow fell hard and covered the land and it sure was a dreamscape. this years first major snow fall was unique and even more exquisite due to the fact that the orange, yellow and green fall leaves still had yet to fall. with that said every color was magically frosted with  snow making the state glow with color. the trees were so heavy due to the inches plus the leaves that many trees did split and fall on cars and in the yards of houses. luckily the zoo and i decided to take my car to the james bond movie because when we arrived home, my normal parking spot was dumped with large tree branches. unfortunately the snow will melt this week and that's okay because i always love my dosage of warmth and sunshine.

these four photos above were taken from myself and my friends off instagram. so many people captured the most beautiful landscapes of the snow fall, that i had to share. here are a few of my favorites. if i had a prize i'd hand them out because my jaw dropped when i saw these photos.

1. this photo was taken by my friend kelsey who currently lives in salt lake. she was able to capture a frosted sunset of the state capital.

2. this photo was taken by my friend deb in provo. i can't get over how much this photo looks like a watercolor. it is truly dreamy.

3. this photo was captured by myself. i thought it was really cool until i saw all of the other photos above. but i still love it because this was taken on our street right out side of our house at midnight. i loved seeing the swamp of trees frosted and hanging heavy over the pavement. it was magical.

4. this photo was taken by my friend whitney. i love the pops of green and oranges/yellows in this.

i hope your weekend was enjoyable and safe no matter what your weather was! onto a productive week we go!

a wet winter wonderland.

oo-ah. i want to thank mr. chris silas neal who created this "navy" film for kate spade. this perfectly describes my thinking process in life right now.
my favorite season : summer.
my favorite thing to do in the summer : bask in the sun and swim like a fish in the sea.
my only problem : it's currently january.
why this film perfectly sums up my mixed emotions : because it's currently january in utah, still has yet to snow, it's 50 degress and sunny which is almost easy enough for me to throw on a suit and swim with the fish, but it aint quite there yet.
so: so im in a rut of mixed emotions.
therefore : im in a wet winter wonderland.

okay, now it feels like christmas thanks to park citys manmade snow. yes, i said it, manmade. utah hasnt really hit the dead winter yet. it's kind of crazy. kind of nice, but it will kick us in the butt when we realize its still freezing in the month of may. late winter, i say. so my roommates and i + one boyfriend, not mine (zekey zoo had to get a root canal. rut-row) threw on some major snow gear and hit the slopes for some tubbage. it was wild and we had a blast. not to mention, we were getting pretty hot with all that stuff on.

december is always cut off a little short due to finals week in school and then heading home for the holidays. so we had very little time to do the tradition christmas activities in utah but i wouldn't want to be anywhere else then where im at now in georgia with my fam. the weather has been out of this world! mid 60's and tomorrow its scooting on up to mid 70's. a little rain here and there, more so a mist but the sun will be shining tomorrow and im pumped because we are taking a drive to my favorite place in the whole united states : charleston, south carolina. im ready to just dive right in to the charm of the south. wish you could come with so that you could fall in love with a place that i could go on and on and on about.

the first snow fall.

mark your calendar, people of utah. last night was the first snowfall of the winter season. i always thought i was going to dread it, but it helped being at the christmas lighting of riverwoods with ice sculptures, gingerbread houses and JOHN SCHMIDT banging on the keys of his piano in the center of all the festivities. did i mention zekey zoo and i and a couple of my roomies hit up the twilight saga? so not my thing, but i secretly love to sit back and have a great laugh. we were laughing so hard throughout the whole thing. it was GREAT entertainment, so worth the money. school is winding down and thanksgiving is almost here! yahoo! can't wait to be surrounded by family with more food then i can even handle. have a great weekend!!!!!

snowed in.

does anyone remember that crazy blizzard of 2010
that was supposed to knock utah out of the water?
does anyone remember when macy's grocery store was out of control
with shoppers believing it was the end of the world?
do you think the shoppers have forgotten that the millenium craze
has past and 2012 (the end of the world) is still a year away?
whether you ripped out the isles of your local store to prepare
for the beast or not, do you remember when it never showed up at your door?
i do. and i was livid. i was ready to live through a historic event
while eating puppy chow and watching flick after flicks.
what baffles me is the blizzard of 2010 occured 5 days after the warning,
with no warning at all. and i got to haul ryder my 4runner through the
nonexistent, frosted, deadly 1-15 roads to pick up some friends at the airport.
what should have been a 45 minute ride, became a 2 hour.
i was driving 25 mph. yeah, i know what you're thinking...
i was dying. and my arms were about to snap. my grip on that steering wheel
was dangerous and i was on a mission to make it to salt lake.
and i did. and my mission was accomplished.
and ryder has no Band-Aids, and my roomie nik finds my driving magnificent.
and i was rewarded with a few tokyo drifts (doughnuts)  in the church parking lot
with nik and robby and i was screaming my head off.
we were cautious. don't you fret.
i have a feeling winter is going to be hanging out with us for quite some time.
welcome winter, thanks for dropping in.

storm hits apt. 301.

this photo was taken on the last sunday of warm weather.
family and friends spent the afternoon in the park chatting up storms, tossing volleyballs (some at peoples faces. yeah, i had a marsha brady moment. mr. jd rasmussen aimed for my leg but somehow hit the jackpot of the side of my face.)
we were all having a gay ol' time. how could we not? it was mid october and still in the low 60's. this never happens. well little did we know that mother nature was going to ruin my party and make it rain. and when it rains, it pours.
this past sunday was a monsoon.
i don't think i've seen it rain like this EVER in utah.
i mean, it was drizzling through out the whole day, not a big deal but come 2 am while im in a deep slumber, the monsoon killed my dream. if you don't know, im the one roommate who was booted up to the loft of the apartment. i call it my throne. i have this window on the ceiling that protrudes outward like a bubble. when rain hits that bubble, it's like bullets from a gun. now, i love thunderstorms, believe me, being from the south, i live for those suckers. but this storm last night scared the living day lights out of me. maybe because my loft is kind of creepy to begin with and who knows what died up here... but i was not having it, so i bolted down the stairs to find that all of the electricity was out. jackpot. and i really had to go to the bathroom. i was blindly walking through the halls with my arms stretched out to stay clear of the mirrors because seeing my own reflection at night freaks me out as well. because of this, i am really thankful we have about 5 mirrors on every diameter of apt. 301. why did the scene of the dead girl in the bathtub in "what lies beneath" have to pop into my head while i was sitting alone in the dark in my bathroom? i dont know, but i didn't flush the toilet because i didn't want strangers to know that i was awake. im lame...

funny enough, i wasn't the only one crying in my bed. poor marissa was all balled up in her covers texting me and begging me to come to her room. i refused, making her come to my throne. she didn't have to argue when she realized i slept in a full size bed. i died laughing when she walked into my room with a battery powered candle to guide her up the stairs, which she later knocked me out with in the mouth because she "saw someone." anyways, though my full size bed is a dream, my costco nuva foam placed on this dream is a twin so mariss and i were not having that either. we were kind of delirious and now wide awake that we couldn't stop laughing. she wouldn't stop playing footsie with me, so i kicked her out of my throne.

long story short. i lost a lot of sleep because of a big storm,
that granted:
power outage
40 degree weather
snow capped mountains
and being an hour late to class due to
alarm being off.

happy monday to you all.
welcome to winter.
lets make the best of it.

this might tickle your fancy
